Anatomy & Physiology Homestudy and Tutored Course

The homestudy pack can be started at any time as the work is done away from the course.

Cost: 165 including workbook.

The cost excludes the recommended Anatomy & Physiology manual by Tortora and Grabowski.

This can be started at any point and applied for at any time. The first part of the programme is home study and can be done in your own time. You need to have completed your home study programme before you come to the tutored days - Applying Physiology in your Practice.

After finishing the whole Anatomy & Physiology programme, including the tutored days, 21 credits at level 3 will be awarded.

Applying Physiology in your practice (Leicester)

Anatomy and physiology with a difference

Whilst to most students this is an interesting but daunting subject, Turning Point Natural Healthcare Education has developed an exciting homestudy course designed especially for kinesiologists. This KF recognised course is challenging, but on completion gives you a feeling that you have gained a much deeper understanding of how the body works without the strain of learning by rote and sitting exams.

The emphasis of the course is the physiology of the human body (the function of the body’s systems and how they interact with each other). Rather than putting the emphasis on learning anatomy (the structures of the body), this is learned automatically as the course progresses.

The course is designed as a series of questions that require problem solving. The majority of the time spent doing this course is reading time to research the answers and this is where learning takes place. For example one question asks you to describe what occurs in the brain and body for a muscle test to take place

Comments from those who have completed the course include:
‘When I got into it, I just could not put the books down. I really felt as if I had gained a good understanding of how the body works”
“ It was great to get good written feedback from the tutor marking my work. I felt I really benefited from doing it and feel a lot more confident about my knowledge of what is going on in the body’s systems.”.
“The course gets you to think and understand how the body’s systems interact with one another rather that you just studying each system in isolation.”

Assessment and accreditation
There is no examination. The questions are written in such a way that you cannot copy large chunks of an A & P book to answer them. Therefore the student is successful if they can show that they understand the body’s systems by their answers to the questions. Assuming that you have no knowledge at all about the human body, the homestudy hours including reading time is 180 hours. If you already have some knowledge, the time it takes may be shorter.

In addition to the homestudy course, there are two days in class attending the module ‘Applying physiology in your practice’ with Terry Larder in Leicester. These days contain further discussion about how physiology can help you identify where to start testing kinesiologically and what to look for. It includes some group work solving some case studies that are presented. Whether you are already trained in A & P or not, these days are stimulating and invaluable for students and newly trained practitioners and can be counted as CPD.

The whole course is accredited for 21 credits at level 3 to add to your OCN portfolio.
It is possible to complete only the homestudy part of the course. A certificate will be issued which is acceptable for KF requirements but OCN credits will only be given if the two-day course is attended
